Hamilton Fire Department Call Description
March 9, 2008 While the usual Sunday morning crew was enjoying morning coffee and taking care of some station duties, Madison County 911 alerted Hamilton Fire & Rescue and SOMAC Ambulance for an MVA Rollover with a female still inside, Route 12B south of the village. Chief Hoham went enroute from the station while Rescue 195 was being manned. 195 (Asst. Chief Marks) went enroute as well as Asst Chief Holcomb. Chief Hoham arrived minutes later reporting 1 car on its roof in the middle of the road with an elderly female still inside. Engine 193 responded and Rescue 195 arrived going to work immediatly to stabalize the vehicle. Once stabilized, the roof was quickly folded down to remove the victim and transfer her to the awaiting ambulance. Extrication was complete in 15 minutes and the patient was transported to Hamilton Community Hospital with non- life threatning injuries. Assistance was recieved from Earlville fire police, shutting the road down on the south end of the accident scene. Asst. Chief Holcomb had operations and Chief Hoham had the Hamilton Command. January 28, 2008 @ 00:36 Madison County 911 alerted Hamilton on a request from Oneida County, for a RIT to 180 Sanger Ave in the village of Waterville for a working structure fire. Initial dispatch was fire in a 3 story structure, fire through the roof. With this information alone, the call was made for Truck 197 to respond. 197 (Captain Murray) went enroute with 6 volunteers and was unable to get an assignment while on the way, once on scene, Operations (O'Falls Chief Reddy) met with the truck crew advising the tower crew they were going to work and an additional RIT assignment would be requested. 197 positioned on the B-C corner of the structure then splitting the crew up, 2 going up in the bucket and and the remaining crew went to the attic to assist the initial attack crew. Once in the attic the crew from the tower was met with some decent fire load still present. Once the fire inside was contained, the remaining fire was 2 layers of roofing (ashpalt shingle over cedar shingle). The bucket crew was able to peel the layers off the roof with the stack tips, extinguishing the remaining fire. A good aggresive attack by Waterville saved a large portion of the structure. 197 operated for approximatly 3 hours then returned to service. Waterville 420 had the Command.
Structure Fire - 16 Broad St. 10-22-07 22:03 Hrs At 22:03 Hrs, Madison County 911 struck the alarm for Hamilton Fire Department to respond to a structure fire, @ 16 Broad St. in the village. 1901 (Assistant Chief Holcomb)called enroute, and shortly after was on the scene. Once on scene, 1901 was advising working fire at the Parkside Deli. Engine 194 (Capt. Murray) went enroute and recieved the assignment from command to take the rear of the structure off of Maple Ave. and stretch a line. As the crew from 194 forced enrty and initiated an attack with a 1 3/4" handline, they encountered heavy fire conditions in the kitchen area of the deli, which they quickly knocked down. Truck 197 arrived on scene , taking the front of the structure. 197's crew was assigned ventillation and Primary search of the 2nd and 3rd floor apartments in the fire building. Both Rescues were on scene with support personel and SOMAC ambulance was on Standby. The Second Engine was manned and available throughout the alarm. Assistant Chief Holcomb had the Command, and Chief Hoham and Asst. Chief Marks divided Operations into front and rear sectors. Due to the size and complexity of the building layout Mutual Aid was called for additional positive pressure fans and manpower to assist in performing ventillation. This activation brought a Heavy Rescue from Sherburne as well as a Heavy Rescue from Morrisville. Earlville was alerted for an additional engine crew to the scene.
Trailer Fire - Rt. 12B South 10-12-07 16:54 Hrs At 16:54, Madison County 911 struck the alarm for Hamilton Fire Department to respond to a possible structure fire, @ 1516 Rt. 12B, South of the village. 190 (Chief Hoham )called enroute, and shortly after was in the area. Once on scene, 190 was advising working fire, single wide trailer. Engine 194 (Lt. Trueworthy) went enroute and recieved the assignment from command to take the driveway and stretch a line, also being advised that the crew should be able to put a good hit on the fire and should be able to hold with the Enginge and Tanker. 196 was on scene shortly after the Engine, and quickly stretched a 4" fill line to the Engine for water supply. 1902 (Asst Chief Marks) arrived, and did a quick walk around, taking any available windows providing ventilation. Once the interior crew managed a cluttered hallway, they made the one room that was well off and hit it. The fire was quickly called under control, and command held with the Hamilton units on scene. Both Rescues were on scene with support personel and SOMAC ambulance was on Standby. The Second Engine was manned and available throughout the alarm. Chief Hoham had the Command and Asst. Chief Marks had Operations. MVA w/ Entrapment- RT.12B North Just past 15:00 HRS, Madison County 911 alerted for Hamilton Fire / Rescue and Madison Ambulance for a motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Rt. 12B, north of the village of Hamilton. Moments into the call 911 was advising of multiple calls stating a 2 car head on with serious injuries. With multiple calls coming in additional ambulances from SOMAC were put on standby in the event of multiple patients. 190-1 (Asst Chief Holcomb) was first arriving chief officer and Heavy Rescue 195 was enroute. 190-1's size up came in advising 2 vehicles involved and 2 patients, 1 out walking around and 1 entrapped with heavy front end damage to a older model Volkswagon Rabbit. Madison ambulance 239 and Rescue 195 arrived about the same time, the ambulance took EMS and the crew from the rescue went to work on the extrication. The rescue crew made a quick roof flap and driver door removal, freeing the passenger, a 23 female with leg and possible pelvic injuries. Extrication was complete in about 15 minutes, with Hamilton units clearing the area soon after and the ambulance transporting to Hamilton Hospital. SOMAC sent 1 ambulance for evaluation only and returned to service. Hamilton units operated for approximatley 20 minutes. Asst. Chief Marks had Operations and Asst. Chief Holcomb had the Hamilton Command.
Water Rescue - Lake Moraine At 18:03, Madison County 911 alerted for Hamilton Rescue and Madison Ambulance to a overturned watercraft on the northern part of Lake Moraine. 190-1 (Asst Chief Holcomb) arrived first, confirming a over turned boat with the occupants still in the water. 190-2 ( Asst Chief Marks) arrived second and established contact with the individuals in the water confirming that there were 4 total victims, 3 that were on the boat, and 1 bystander that swam out to assist. The Bystander was able to retrive 1 of the victims, a young male approximatly 8-10 years old, and then a second young male, approximatly the same age was able to self rescue himself at the same time, leaving just one victim left clinging to the boat, an elderly male who was obviously tired and very cold. Once the first three victims made the shoreline, they were directed to the staging area where Madison Ambulance was located, and an additional 2 ambulances from SOMAC were.Upon arrival of Rescues 195 and 195-1, the crews from both were sent to the location of Asst Chief Marks with 3 Fire fighters in cold water suits, and the remaining crew bringing the rope reels, throw bags and Rescue sled. Firefighter Jack Hale was the first rescuer in the water, making his way to the last victim and securing him with a flotation ring. Shortly after, Firefighters Bill Basher and Lou Aliperti advanced the rescue sled to the victim and were able to secure him.. Approximatly 3 minutes later, all were back on shore and the last victim was loaded into an awaiting stokes basket and taken to the awaiting ambulance. Firefighter Hale returned to secure the watercraft which was then brought back to shore. All victims were transported to Hamilton Hospital for treatment. Hamilton Units returned to sevice @ 19:08 Asst. Chief Marks had Operations and Asst. Chief Holcomb had the Hamilton Command.
Car Fire Utica Street- The Hamilton Fire Department was alerted for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Utica St and Lebanon St. . 190 (Chief Hoham) arrived and reported an SUV with the engine compartment fully involved. Engine 194 (Lt. Murray) arrived on scene at 16:10, and was advised to pull up to the corner of Utica St. and Lebanon St. and block traffic on Lebanon St. The Engine crew pulled a 1 3/4" attack line and began to extinguish the fire. Rescue 195 arrived on scene and assisting the engine crew with gaining entry to the vehicle. Units cleared the scene and returned to service at 16:42 HRS
Structure Fire- Randallsville Rd 09-06-06 02:12 HRS Madison County 911 alerted Hamilton Fire for a reported structure fire at 1937 Randallsville Rd. Large Woods Fire 04 - 30 - 06 : At 16:00 Hrs, Madison County 911 alerted Hamilton Fire to respond and investigate smoke in the area of Gorton Road @ Hamilton Road. 2 Chief officers responded along with Engine 194 to the area, while enroute smoke was drifting toward the village, and a heavy amount of smoke was discovered in the original area. Both chiefs continued to Bonney road to further investigate the source of the smoke. Arriving in an open field, assistant ChiefHolcomb did a visual walkaround of the perimeter of approximatly 5 acres burning. Both Rescues and Tanker 196 were then requested to the scene. Additional resources were then requested from Hubbardsville, Earlville and Madison , all for brush trucks with manpower into the fire scene. Units operated for approximatley 3 hours before the last hot spots were extinguished. SOMAC Ambulance was on scene for rehab. Assistant Chief Holcomb took operations and Assistant Chief Marks had the command.

Garage Fire - Mutual aid to Hubbardsville 01 -15 - 06 . 19:15 Hrs, Madison County 911 struck the alarm sending Hubbardsville, North Brookfield and an Engine, Tanker and Rescue from Hamilton for a garage fire on Hamilton Road and Kiley road intersection. County dispatch was advising of multiple calls confirming a working fire in a single story detached garage, this was then confirmed by first arriving chiefs. Engine 194 (First Due) with a crew of 6 arrived pulling dual 1" 3/4 pre-connects making a quick knock down of the fire while being supplied by Tanker 196. Rescue 195 with a crew of 6 arrived and went to work overhauling. Hubbardsville aided in the overhaul and scene support . Hamilton Units operated for approximatly 30 minutes before clearing. 190 (Chief Holcomb) had the Command.
Structure Fire 20 West Pleasant. 11-11-05. At 17:43 , Madison County 911 struck Hamilton F.D. for a reported structure fire behind 20 W.Pleasant St. in the village. 190 (Chief Holcomb) arrived @ 17:44 finding a 2 story wood frame with smoke and flames visible on the first floor. The only occupant was an elderly lady, who met the chief in the driveway uninjured. Engine 194 (Capt. Trueworthy) with a crew of 6 arrived @ 17:45 catching the hydrant, laying in 200' of 4" and pulling 1 pre connect (1 3/4") to the structure. A quick attack on the fire room was initiated, holding the fire to the room of origin. Truck 197 (Lt. Simpson) responded with a crew of 6 and went to work opening up and venting the second floor checking for extention. Engine 193 (FF Prindle) with a crew of 4 caught a second hydrant from the corner of Maple and W. Pleasant and layed into the scene. Rescue 195 (FF Carroccio) with a crew of 6 had scene support. Assistant Chief Holcomb had operations and Chief Holcomb had the Command. SOMAC Ambulance was on standby and Morrisville Fire had R.I.T coverage. |
